The L1A1 is what's referred to as an inch pattern rifle, whereas the FAL is considered a metric pattern. The weird thing is the FAL isn't metric at all. All of the dimensions on the weapon are called out in inch measurements. The magazines don't readily and reliably interchange between the two.

Use a high-quality grease on the nut and the tube before you gall-sieze them together. When you install the new tube, use some blue loctite on the threads where the tube meets the lower receiver. DO NOT use any kind of threadlocker on the threads that secure the round-headed nut to the rear end of the tube.
