Duramax ticking noise.

The noise could be described as an irregular ticking or clacking sound like random typing on a mechanical typewriter. This condition has been present in diesel engines produced for the last 20 or more years. The overall noise reduction in engines produced today makes this noise seem new when in fact it was masked by other noises in the past.Ticking noise when accelerating. The new to me Duramax has a ticking noise going on as soon as you step on the gas. It is present from around 1000rpms to 2700 rpms. If I´m flooring it it goes away and it goes away as soon as I let of the pedal.. My truck is right at 200,00 miles with all original drivetrain components. It has started making a clicking/ticking sound that can be heard in the cab pretty good and once window is rolled down, it is even louder. It sounds like it is coming from the rear end or bed area. Jan 27, 2021. #1. Hello, New to the forum, having issues with a 2019 silverado 3500 I just purchased about 3 weeks ago. The engine has developed a very loud ticking, sounds like its coming from the drivers side. At times you also hear a thumping noise that sounds like its coming from towards the front of the engine.

The injector ballance rates are very good, as the truck has 40k on it. I can't locate it, it's easily heard from both passenger and drivers side of truck. On the 2020 there are two belts now and the fan is by itself. GMTECH link has a small description on the problem but no resolution.

The Silverado book says it was filled with "Dexos" but the LGH and LML Duramax Diesel supplement book says to use API CJ-4 oil. There are no stickers under the hood near the dipstick/oil fill to indicate either.

Some people do find different brand oil seems to quieten the noise some but experimentation is key for some because not all oils act the same in all engines.. It only seems to happen between 1,000 and 1500 rpm. My 16 LML made a similar noise sometimes, but this L5P seems to do it more. It's not the typewriter tick, that's for sure.
