I have multiple Maya saves, and alternate frequently between builds. I use a Scorn build most, but go SS for speed runs. SS downsides are pretty badly overblown, most likely because people frequently pair it with a Legendary Binder. The extra Suspension boost makes it more painful when the orb gets weird. Every character can solo Ultimate. Maya is pretty easy for most of it because of her very useful action skill. Slagg is such an annoying mechanic in ultimate and she takes the annoying out of it since it's bult in the action skilll with a point and does it extremely well. I did find some bosses a real pain but nothing that can't be done.

Axton is well balanced to play solo. the Survival build initially looks appealing as it has the obvious health and health regen. Use them initially to help you early on, but once you have 15-20 points consider a respec as you can get similar benefits under the Guerilla tree with Able, and having rockets and/or double guns will really help you.
