I was cutting dense, broadleaf 6" grass down to 4" with a FR691V at full 8mph, and it didn't even change RPM's compared to my 17.5hp Kohler Commander bogging @ 5mph. Every mechanic I talked to when I was shopping for mine said the Kawa is a much better engine than the Briggs and Straton. I ended up going with the Kawa motor, I found a great deal on a mower that had it on there. Kawasaki. With that being said- The FX801V is the most reliable engine in the FX line. We sell plenty of those on all lines in our dealership. I like the Vanguard 810 efi better because it has Delphi fuel injection. Its super reliable. With proper fueling the Vanguard runs cooler and will in turn last longer.A couple points-. I haven't seen a Briggs Vanguard series engine used on a lawn/garden tractor in years. The last I know of for sure was on some Cub 2000 series LT/GTs made up until 2004. To the OP, if the Kawi we're talking about is installed on a ~$2000 lawn tractor, I'd keep the $200 and go with the Briggs.
