Nov 3, 2018 · Shoeboxes seemed so fucking easy in my first bulk grow that I hate to make things more difficult for a slight margin in yield, BUT space here is a concern. IE it would be way easier to do like 4-5, maybe 6, monotubs vs 36 shoeboxes. I suppose, yeah I was attracted to the ease of the boxes: just flip the lid.

Try a 1:2 or a 1:1 ratio next time. BTW six 1/2 pints of spawn = 3 pints of spawn so for a 1:2 you'd want 3 pints spawn to 6 quarts bulk substrate (but that's all depending on size of tub/tray and how deep you want your substrate to be too). monotubs are obviously having a higher yield potential if done well. not really. one mono can yield more than one shoebox, but a shoebox can also yield more than / the same as a mono. Depends on lots of different factors. Plus if you just do a few shoeboxes instead of one mono, then you'll get about the same yield.

I ended up having to pull the substrate that was attached to the base of my mushrooms and press it back in as an attempt to fill all of the holes.
