A base or mid-range model RAV4 is perfectly reasonable and competitive in the marketplace. You pay a premium for them used. Rav4 less than a 4Runner or, god forbid, Tacoma but it's a premium nonetheless. Their new prices are within the realm of reasonable. Nothing holds its value like a Toyota truck.

I haven't needed to lock the diff in the 4yrs I owner the Rav4. 🤷 It's really about slow acceleration, driving for the conditions (slower), and keeping enough stopping distance in the snow. Hybrid (or even Eco mode for the gas models) let's you control acceleration better so you don't step on it too fast from a dead stop. The Camry’s suspension was super loose, like driving a trampoline at times which was super comfortable. The RAV4’s suspension is definitely more rigid but tbh I don’t really notice it as much as I thought I would coming from the Camry. Other than the suspension, the steering on the Rav4 is really smooth and it takes corners like a champ.

The CX50 and RAV4 adventure/trd seem to be similar in what they can do. The RAV imo has the better awd system but I haven’t had a chance to see and feel the Mazda. The RAV seems to struggle with power so the CX50’s turbo drivetrain is very compelling. The Mazda CX-50 is the quintessential egg shaped boring crossover. RAV4 is the best non-luxury crossover. If going for a RAV4, go for Hybrid or Plugin, as well as XLE premium or higher trims. You might find other non-luxury crossovers like CRV, Subaru, Rogue, Tucson etc. Tucson has a better infotainment and interior look. RAV4 might take the last spot w.r.t infotainment.
