It's just for pure looks and for the dobes that are in the show ring. It's a regular part of the breed standard and some breeders don't really give you a choice nowadays. It's not the 1800s anymore so being a working doberman isn't a reason for cropping anymore. Most people do show crops.It's hard to get them perfectly straight when the ear crop shape is a little wider like your pup's. New here and my first post.....I am the proud new parent of a 8wk old Red/Rust Doberman and looking for a vet for ear cropping in the Brandon / Tampa Florida area. I have checked around and had quotes anywhere from 250 to $1000+ ! the high quote was of a vet who owns and is well versed in Dobermans but cant afford that for just a crop.Mostly my Doberman puppies were already cropped and the edges healed when I got them, because caring breeders do that to ensure the puppies get a good ear corp, experienced care at this critical period, and to relieve the new owner of having to it all themselves. I posted them for nine months before they finally stood but they were still a bit weak and floppy. I did use nasal strips for a month to finish them off, but it's definitely a last step in the process.
