n_slash_a. • 3 yr. ago. 30-45 SPM is a good number. That is 1 science per cycle on an AM1 or AM2. Works good enough. My other advice is to buffer stuff. This is not recommended for normal play, since it hides bottlenecks. In the No Spoon case, you want to hide bottlenecks.Just checked my old No Spoon save. I made the resource patches as large/frequent/rich as possible, and made the biters as easy as possible (they still have to be on though). Then I just used the standard SPM ratios (5 red/6 green/etc for 45 spm at level 2 assemblers), and only researched technologies that directly helped launch the rocket.

Get a friend into Multiplayer and do it together. Use voice chat. Mining by hand is twice as fast, and later one can build the auxilliary stuff (power, smelting, refinery), the other one the science part. I did the "Lazy Spoon" (Lazy Bastard and There Is No Spoon in one go), first alone in 7:55, then again with my friend in under 7 hours.
