Aug 12, 2020 · On long road trips, I have had the voltage drop as low as 12.7. And once had 12.5V which the dealer said was OK and gave me a Jeep bulletin that stated normal voltage could be between 12.4 and 14.5 volts. I really dislike the smart charging system. Also, I parked the JTR for 3 weeks while waiting for parts and the main battery was dead. The easy and simple answer, battery charging in controlled by the PCM and running voltage is based on battery temperature. Higher battery temps, lower voltage. Lower temps, higher voltage. In the 90's and 00's, that was true and a change in the charging systems to prevent overcharging the battery.The Jeep still started but the Aux switches didn't work for a few minutes. ... BSG utilizes the standard starter motor for cold starts and the Belt Start Generator for s/s events, and has a 48v secondary battery located on the inside of the driver's side frame rail next to the rear driveshaft.
